I met Harry not long after I came to UoG in 2003 and he immediately made me feel welcome. We shared some academic and political interests and Harry was always genial company over coffee. While he often displayed his dry sense of humour, he also displayed without any ostentation wide academic knowledge across a number of fields. Like others, I saw Harry on picket lines fighting for better conditions for colleagues. I was sorry when he left the university, and even sorrier now I will not see him again.
