Harry was in various guises, a great colleague and friend. He supported and 'supervised' me into my introduction into academic life at C&GCHE in 1993. He also supervised me for my PhD in an extremely gentle and skilful way. Our relationship was complicated even further by my being his Head of School at UoG for awhile. During all of this time together (and afterwards) we remained great friends. Indeed, the only test to our friendship was, as everyone who ever met him will know, that he was an ardent Man Utd fan - and me an equally passionate Liverpool supported.
